TEAM FALKEN EARNS PODIUM SPOT WITH JAMES DEANE IN THIRD AT ‘TRUE NORTH’ FORMULA D IN MONTREAL
Deane retains top standing in Driver’s Championship
MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA – Team Falken took yet another podium with team driver James Deane’s third place in the 2017 Black Magic Formula Drift Pro Championship Round 5’s True North event in Montreal.
Deane – who qualified in first place – has now earned a podium in three of the five Formula D events thus far this season, performing before a sold-out crowd at Autodrome St. Eustache.
“It’s good to keep our momentum going,” Deane stated. “Being on the podium and earning the points we did keep Falken Tires and us on top, and that’s what matters. It was a fantastic evening and the fans in Canada are just wonderful.”
With 24 entrants venturing north, Team Falken drivers qualified well – with Deane in first; Justin Pawlak, 3rd; Matt Field, 7th; Piotr Wiecek, 8th; Aurimas “Odi” Bakchis, 9th; and Daijiro “Dai” Yoshihara in 16th. Deane went down to eventual race winner Fredric Aasbo in the Top 4.
“The battles got tougher with the track’s changing conditions after the sun set,” Deane added. “It was a bit intimidating to see wrecked cars come back to the paddock battle after battle, but we survived, and a big thank you to my sponsors and to Falken for the AZENIS 615K+ that gave me the confidence and grip that allowed me to throw my car sideways at speed very close to the Autodrome’s walls.”
“On behalf of Falken, we’re very proud of our performance here in Montreal,” said Steve Wong, Falken’s Supervisor, Passenger Car Events. “Our qualifying remains strong, but the competition is trying to play catch up. James and the rest of Team Falken continue to deliver solid runs as we maintain our leads in both in the Driver’s Championship and in the Tire Cup.”
Next, Team Falken will travel across the entire North American continent for the annual “Throwdown” in Monroe, WA, for Round 6, August 4-5.
